Consultation Services
Patrick’s Academy, Inc. provides consultation services targeted towards parents who are seeking to develop strategies and skills to help their children reach their highest potential. Through parent training, hands-on-practice and on-going supervision, our consultants teach parents how to effectively educate their children using the computer based training within the daily structure of their own home. These services are focused towards families who are committed to being an integral part of their child's education. Active parent participation is mandatory for consideration of all consultation services.
The expectations of parents are to attend all training's and to gain the analysis, teaching strategies and problem solving skills to enable their children to learn through the implementation of computer based training.
The consultant's role is to provide the family with the skills and education to competently implement effective computer based training to their children within the context of their natural environment and within their daily family schedule. Our consultants will provide parents training on how to maximize "teachable moments" while utilizing the computer. The consultant provides on-going support and feedback to assist parents in becoming capable of continuing to work with their children with the goal being to fade out services of the consultant with the main planning and teaching coming from parents to their children.
Services will begin after the initial interview process have occurred. Families will engage in training and observation of the consultant computer training skills and strategies that promote effective learning in children with autism. The consultant will provide priority goals and objectives for your child from the analysis of your child's skills and input of parents' priorities for their child. The consultant will develop specific targets and data tracking to document their child's progress.

On-going consultation services are available to families seeking home-based treatments on a limited basis. Patrick’s Academy, Inc. offers both local and distance consultation. While families may hire independent staff to work with their children, our model focuses on training parents who are committed to participating in and implementing effecting teaching strategies to help their child reach their highest potential. Active parent participation is mandatory for consideration of this service model.
Local Consultation
Local consultation is offered to families within 3 hours of our office. After submitting an registration request, parents will meet in person or via phone for an interview. During this interview parents will be advised of any further assessment that may be required to begin services. After the intake, an initial two-day (2 hour day) training will be scheduled, which parents must attend and families may also have any hired staff or auxiliary therapists participate in. The initial training will provide parents and staff with an overview of the principles of computer based training, teaching methods applicable to children with autism (e.g. verbal behavior, natural environment teaching, discrete trial, play and social skills training), technical training on data collection and behavior management. Much of the training will encompass observation and hands on computer training with the child, with specific feedback from the consultant. At the end of the initial training, the consultant will prepare a formal training plan with specific educational objectives to be addressed. On-going consultation services include up to 4 weeks (4 hours) of direct follow-up visits, and weekly phone and or e-mail contact. During follow-up consultation visits, on-going training of parents and staff will occur as well as the monitoring and updating of objectives for the child.
Distance Consultation
Distance consultation is offered to families that are more than 3 hours from our offices. After submitting a registration request, parents will meet via phone for an interview. During this interview parents will be advised of any further assessment that may be required to begin services. After the interview, an initial 2-3 day conference call training will be scheduled, which parents must attend and families may also have any hired staff or auxiliary therapists participate in.
School Consultation
Patrick’s Academy, Inc. is able to provide programming and instructional instruction of local (within 3 hours) school district employees who are providing direct instruction to children enrolled in Patrick's Academy, Inc. Training can be provided to school district staff working in both the 1:1 and small group settings. Patrick’s Academy, Inc. is able to provide training and in-services to classroom teachers and instructional assistants on the use and implementation of computer based training. Patrick’s Academy, Inc. also provide ongoing support and consultation to classroom teachers and staff for computer based management purposes. Including, providing on-site support and guidance of implementation and monitoring of programs of instruction, specific teaching methodologies, and feedback on implementation of instruction as needed.
